Components of Title 1

Components of Title I

  • Title I tutors work with Title I students in small groups pull out groups.

  • Title I tutors work with Title I students in classrooms, when possible.

  • Research based programs are used for instruction, such as the Leveled Literacy Intervention Program.

  • Students access new books and familiar reads while reading both fiction and nonfiction texts.

  • Students will have instruction in the following areas, as needed; phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, decoding strategies, reading fluency, and comprehension, as well as writing in response to reading.

  • Progress reports will be issued at the same time as report cards, throughout the year.

Title 1 at BES

Title I at Barrington Elementary School

  • Title I is a federally funded program.

  • Title I provides literacy support for students in grades 1-3.

  • Title I tutorials are taught by certified teachers and paraprofessionals.

  • Students receive Title I services primarily during their grade level Success Block.

  • Title I teachers are supervised by the BES Reading Specialist.


Title 1 Eligibility

Eligibility for Title I

  • An Eligibility Form is completed by classroom teachers who report the following data; DRA level, iReady Reading score (when available), Fundations Unit Assessment Scores (when available), sight word knowledge, and teacher recommendation.

  • Homeless or migrant status and ESOL (English as a Second or Other Language) are also considered.

  • Points are awarded to each of these criteria.

  • Students with the highest point values in each grade are found eligible for Title I services.

  • Ongoing assessments will determine eligibility for continued support.
